Earlier this week the famous Trance festival, Dreamstate, took to the road for a North American tour, armed with a handful of the hottest acts in the Trance scene. Relentless Beats and Arizona were one of the lucky locations to be picked to host this historic tour. Not only were we picked, but we also received one of the most talent-stacked lineups. Headlining this show is Paul van Dyk, Simon Patterson, Alex M.O.R.P.H, Heatbeat, and we can’t forget two of the most respected locals Arizona has to offer, LuJan and Brett M Ortiz. This will definitely be one of the biggest Trance shows Arizona has seen.
Before we jump into the artists introductions, let’s talk about what we can expect from the stage production. With Arizona’s biggest dance music promoting company, Relentless Beats, teaming up with the legendary Insomniac, you can bet your top dollar the stage is going to be off the charts.
The Pressroom is a very spacious warehouse-like club, with plenty of room for brain melting lasers and strobes. They couldn’t have picked a better venue to dance the night away to the mesmerizing beats of Trance.
I usually do not write introductions for the local openers because half the time I don’t have enough information on them to warrant a good introduction. For this event though we have two veteran powerhouse locals who deserve all the praise they get.
Brett M Ortiz is the king of Scottsdale, being booked every weekend to play for hours on end. We’re not here to talk about his fame in Scottsdale though, we are here for the Trance! Brett will definitely not disappoint on the Trance front. With his deep love and understanding of the genre, I have full trust in him to bring one of the highest quality sets of the night. Do not sleep on this, get there early and show this local the same love you give to the headliners.
Now for LuJan, the first local I ever saw, when he opened for Markus Schulz. I have been a huge fan of this talented DJ for quite some time now. Being a yearly regular on the Groove Cruise events and traveling out of state for multiple shows, LuJan has a good amount of feats under his belt. It is safe to say Arizona is lucky to have him as a resident. Known for his live edits paired with his phenomenal stage presence, he is an excellent choice to get the crowd in the groove to dance into the early morning hours. Much like I said about Brett, you don’t want to miss out on this fantastic local act.
Let’s dive into the meat and potatoes of this magnificent event, the headliners. First off we have, Heatbeat a trance duo from Argentina, the home of the most passionate fans in the world. Formed in 2006, Agustin Servente and Matias Chavez have had quite the renowned career so far, with multiple releases on Armada, WOA138 and their own label AERYS. Their single Rocker Monster gained massive support from some of the biggest names in the industry, even being played by Armin van Buuren regularly. With this massive success over the years they have placed themselves among the leading acts in Trance.
In the beginning of their careers you could expect heavy Electro infused Trance, but in the recent years they have shifted to a techy sound. We can expect to hear many new tracks from their label AERYS, which has been releasing high energy bangers as of late. I also would not be surprised to hear quite a few tunes from Damaged Records because they have expressed a liking to it. This Argentinian duo will without a doubt deliver an unforgettable set.
This event we’re blessed with two DJ’s that have been rocking the decks for over two decades. The first of these two is the German trucker, Alex M.O.R.P.H. Alex started his career in 1996 when he released his first track on Seelenlandschaften, which put him on the path to success. After putting multiple singles out on various labels he joined the renowned Vandit records, where he released his first album Purple Audio in 2009. Now, Alex is focused on his new brand, Universal Nation, where he looks to cultivate the sound he has loved for so many years.
Alex M.O.R.P.H. will take us on a journey through the multitude of sounds that Trance has to offer. Known for his driving and emotional productions, he is not afraid to change it up and throw in Psy and Tech Trance. We will also get to hear a couple of tracks off of his latest album Not All Superheroes Wear Capes. This set will be quite entertaining because he has the ability to surprise the crowd, given how open he is with his sound.
We also have Simon Patterson, Arizona’s very own special guest on this tour! Simon has been a huge act in Trance for over a decade and seems to be heading towards legend status. His and Magnus’ track Evoke was one of the biggest hits of 2016, being played in nearly every DJ set. Patterson has had releases on some of dance music’s hottest labels such as Spinnin’, WAO138, and the brand new VII Crew. There seems to be only greatness in this young legends future and we are lucky to be a part of it.
Simon Patterson’s set will most likely be the highest energy act of the night with very little competition. I like to describe sets like his in two words, “Heads Down”, meaning you just put your head down and keep your feet moving. This will give you a glimpse into the “underground” Trance scene that the VII Crew likes to advocate for. Hopefully, Arizona can handle it.
Last but definitely not least, is the Grammy award winning DJ/producer, Paul van Dyk. This man is one of the founding fathers of Trance music, starting his career in 1990. Paul is the owner of Vandit Records, one of the most respected labels in dance music. Many of Paul’s tracks have seen commercial success such as For An Angel and the highly praised The Politics of Dance series. Paul also runs a weekly radio show VONYC, which pulls in millions of listeners regularly. After having a life threatening fall last year, we’re very blessed to have him joining us.
Paul van Dyk is a master DJ and I expect his set to be crisp and engaging. Playing a few of his classics while also representing the Vandit sound. The story he will be telling is one of emotion and pure ecstasy. It will truly be a unifying experience for everyone in attendance that we will be able to treasure for a lifetime. I cannot wait to witness this founding father in person in my own hometown. Arizona, get ready for the time of your life!
I hope I was able to give a few of you a better understanding of how fortunate we are to have this magnificent event. I can not wait to see everyone there and remember to dance your heart & soul out!
Next event will be the Arizona classic, Dirty Disco!
