Most of you probably don’t know that I listen to 6-8hr of music a day on average. Over the next five days, I am going to share with you, my top five albums/compilations of 2016. Here we go!
#5. Sean Tyas – Degeneration
2016 started out with a bang! Sean Tyas showed multiple genres and sub-genres of Trance with this banger of an album. He also chose some very high-quality remixes that rival the originals to feature on the album. If you’re a fan of the darker side of trance and DnB I highly recommend giving this album a listen.
#4. Chicane – Twenty
I honestly wasn’t too excited about this album when I first heard about it. Anniversary albums are usually just recycled classics throughout their career which doesn’t really excite me. I gave this album a chance because Chicane is truly a master of his art. He did a phenomenal job of picking the best of the best remixes to feature on this anniversary album. He gave some lesser known artist an opportunity to represent a legend and I respect that. If you are a new or old fan of Chicane this is the album for you.
#3. Loud – 5 Billion Stars
This album is a true piece of musical art. Something we don’t see very often in music is when an album tells you a story. This album is meant to be played from start to finish, no pausing, no skipping, just you and the music. Loud will take you on a journey through reality and the spirit world. I often like to turn off my lights, close my eyes, and let this album take me away. I urge each and every one of you to give this truly magnificent experience a chance!
Ferry Corsten will always be one of my all time favorite producers. When I heard he was reviving Gouryella without Tiësto it made me beyond excited. This album is set up like a live set so you can have a taste of what it’s like to hear this legendary moniker live. Like the title of the album, Gouryella‘s sound is straight from the heavens. It pulls emotions out of you like no other type of music. One of my biggest regrets in 2016 was not purchasing the limited collectors edition of this beautiful album. If you want to be taken to the heavens and back I highly recommend giving this piece of art a listen too.
P.S. Please bring back Vincent de Moor for a Veracocha album =].
#1. Astrix – He.Art
This album absolutely blew my mind when it came out earlier this year. I am pretty sure I listened to it on repeat for a solid month. Astrix is one of the most respected and popular artists in a Psychedelic Trance and he shows why with this album. Each and every single song on this album tells an in-depth story of the psychedelic world. Not only is the music amazing but also the cover art is absolutely beautiful. This is the type of album that makes colors have feeling and sounds have visuals. Join me on this walk through the jungle while Astrix directs us with sound.
